Deep conditioning masks for your hair

Posted on January 31, 2018 at 9:09 pm

There are so many different hair products on the market, it can be hard to know which ones to try and with some costing quite a bit of money, it is understandable many people simply cannot afford to keep buying different ones in hope of finding something that works.

Deep conditioning masks can help put moisture back in to your hair and give it a shiny and health look. Some people swear by homemade conditioning masks and other people opt for off the shelf ones. When choosing a mask, it is important to look at what ingredients are in them. If your hair is often quite greasy then you want to steer clear of the ones that have too much oil in them as this can often make your hair worse. If your hair is really damaged then you may want to put a mask on that you can leave on over night. Some will give you a cap to wear or often cling film over the hair will do the same job, as the heat that’s contained will help speed up the process.

Always read reviews when choosing any new hair product to find out about other people’s experiences.

Keeping on top of your hair appointments

Posted on October 2, 2016 at 7:48 pm

Many of us see a trip to the hair dressers as a treat and it is one of those things that often gets put off if money is tight. If you are looking for highlights or colour and a cut you can expect to pay in excess of £70 but when you split it over 6 – 8 weeks, it is not that much weekly.

If you miss appointments not only will you probably start to feel self conscious but will also risk your next appointment costing you much more. This is often the case with colours that could have just required a root touch up but with the missed appointment will now mean a full head of colour.

Ideally try to save the amount needed each week so when it comes to your appointment you have already got the money. You may find that you don’t miss it weekly but it is a big amount to fork out for in one go.

Saving money at the hairdressers

Posted on June 19, 2016 at 12:54 pm

I love going to the hairdressers, but do find that the costs can very quickly add up often resulting in one visit costing close to £100. Although I love the pampering and time relaxing while having my hair done, the cost often puts me off meaning that I leave it far longer than I should do simply due to money.

If you are looking to have a colour and also need a cut, then don’t get tricked in to paying for a blow dry unless you want your hair styled in a particular way. If the hairdresser is colouring your hair then they should dry it off so see how the colours have come out, if they are cutting it too then you should be charged for a cut but not necessarily a blow dry.

Many hairdressers will charge you for a colour and then cut and blow dry unless you pick up on it. You can also ask for it to just be rough dried saving you on average £20 for a blow dry.

Getting rid of brassy tones

Posted on April 20, 2016 at 8:30 pm

If you have blond hair that has been bleached then you may experience brassy tones. All hair has an element of red tones in in and often, when lighting hair it has to go through a red stage to get it to blond. If the bleach is not left on long enough or is not strong enough then you hair may get stuck in a red stage, this can also happen naturally over time.

If you want to get back to that ash / white blond look then there are a few ways in which you can do so. You can have your hair lightened again but this may cause damage to the hair and make it brittle and break off so is not advised to do more than every 4-6 weeks at most. You can have a toner put n which is essentially putting a colour on to the bleached hair to hide the brassy tones, these can work well but often only last a few weeks. There is also the option to use purple shampoos and conditioners, purple is on the opposite side of the colour wheel and therefore counteracts red, using this on a daily or weekly basis works similar to a toner but can be done safely at home.

Bleaching nightmares

Posted on October 31, 2015 at 12:23 am

If you want that bleached blonde look or even golden highlights, I cannot stress enough to go to a professional salon or hairdresser to do it for you. Unlike applying a colour, bleach will strip the colour out of your hair and if done incorrectly can leave you with green or red hair or even make your hair break off.

It is not cheap to have highlights done at a salon but they will have all the necessary equipment needed to do it. The home kits would allow you to say a fortune, but in my experience they never come out how you had expected them too.

If you want to lighten your hair all over then I would always suggest having full head of highlights a few time rather than bleaching your hair in one go. This will also allow your hair to remain in a good condition as bleaching can be very damaging.
