Hitting the January sales

Posted on December 29, 2018 at 12:04 pm

With Christmas out the way and New Year almost upon us, some people have already started to take advantage of the sales that often start as early as Boxing day. Many shops have lots of stock that they want to clear from the previous year and slash prices to get rid of it quick. You will often see sales where prices are discount by up to 70% meaning you really can save a bundle.
If you are looking for a new wardrobe, then now is time to shop. It’s not only summer clothing that is sold off cheap at this time of year, you will also get some great bargains on winter and spring clothing meaning you can stock up for the whole year. If you have received any vouchers at Christmas time then now may be a great time to spend them as it is not only clothing that gets reduced at this time of year. Shops such as Boots often have fantastic savings on gift sets, meaning if you are super organised, you could even start your shopping for the following Christmas or for birthdays that come up throughout the year. Be sure to check how long you get to return any items that are in the sale and if you can get a refund as some shops will only offer you an exchange or credit note.

Winter-proof your hair

Posted on November 27, 2018 at 9:57 am

With winter in full swing most of us are slathering on the thicker moisturisers and topping up our lip balm to protect our skin from the harsh effects of the cold weather but what about our hair? Its easy to forget that our hair is also dramatically affected by the sudden drop in temperatures and can show signs of being dry, brittle and damaged over the winter months.

If you want to help protect your hair or help to repair any damage already done its important to understand what is causing your main issues. For many people they use heat to style their hair, either blow dryer, straighteners or curling tongs, these can be damaging enough but add in the extremes of then going out into the cold minus temperatures and you have a recipe for disaster!

Before using any heat on your hair its vital that you apply a heat protection spray to limit the heat source over drying your hair and leeching out its nourishment.

You should also use a more nourishing shampoo and conditioner during the winter months that will contain more of the precious oils that can so easily be lost due to the changing temperatures.

Using a good hair mask once a week will make the world of difference too and can help rescue even the most damaged hair. For best results apply the hair mask to damp hair then put on a plastic shower cap and sleep with the product on ready to rinse off in the morning.

Vitamins to help your hair and skin

Posted on September 30, 2018 at 9:00 pm

As we get older many of us worry about the effects of aging on our hair and skin. Overtime you my find that your hair becomes more fragile and starts to thin and that your skins starts to look dull and tired. There are a huge number of different moisturisers on the market that aim to help promote healthy skin and shampoos and conditioners which claim to do the same for your hair.

Vitamins are another way in which you can help improve you complexion and hair and help by working from within. Many vitamins have an effect on hormone levels which are often knocked out of whack as we start to age.

Vitamin A serves as an antioxidant and can be great for those looking to rejuvenate their skin. Some of the best foods to eat to get vitamin A are sweet potatoes, carrots and spinach.

Vitamin C is great for our bodies as it helps create collagen, a type of connective tissue that keeps our skin firm. Many people choose to take vitamin C supplements but it can be found in foods like broccoli, strawberries and bell peppers.

For hair, the best vitamin you can take is a vitamin B called Biotin. Other B-vitamins help create red blood cells, which carry oxygen and nutrients to the scalp and hair follicles this occurs naturally in a variety of foods.

Shoe shopping for people with wide feet

Posted on August 30, 2018 at 1:15 pm

If you have been blessed with wide feet you will already know how hard it can be to get shoes that fit you properly. You may find that you need half sizes as you are in-between two sizes or that you need to find a shop that sells wide fit shoes.

On the high street there are more and more shops that sell wide fitting shoes than years ago, but still often the range is quite limited. Most of the “going out” shoes seem to be designed for people with very narrow feet and if you have wide feet you may find that the style you like simply isn’t available.

Shopping online does often give you a better choice but it is sometimes hard to tell exactly what a shoe looks like until you have tried it on. You also may not know what size you are as some people still have to go up a size even in some wide fitting shoes.

If you are ordering from a catalogue then you may decide to order both sizes to try on, check the returns process before you do this to ensure you can return one pair for free and to get a full refund.
