Anti-ageing beauty products

Posted on December 8, 2015 at 11:48 pm

The market is flooded with anti-ageing beauty products and they range drastically in price. You can often buy supermarkets own brand anti-ageing creams for as little as a few pounds or really splash out on well-known products costing upwards of a few hundred pounds.

But do these products really work? There are varied opinions on this, some people say certain ones do and others don’t believe they make any difference at all. Brands can be very good at giving us lots of scientific terms to make you believe that what you are investing in is a sound product and will make a difference, but often these claims are not completely truthful or skewed.

If you want to try and use these products then try and research the ingredients and find out if there is any proven evidence of results. You could also ask for a few trial to see if you notice any slight improvement in the time you trial it.

Buying hair extensions

Posted on November 30, 2015 at 12:15 am

Buying hair extensions can be a nightmare especially if you have multi-coloured hair. If you have highlights and / or lowlights, finding an exactly colour match can be virtually impossible. Not only do you have to consider the hair colour but you need to decide if you want a one piece clip in or multiple piece clip in and if you want synthetic or human hair.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both, but if you want to be able to style e.g. straighten / curl the hair, then you may want to go for human hair. These can be a little more expensive but tend to last longer.

If you are buying online then colour matching is even harder as you have to go off the pictures provided and unfortunately the colours don’t look like they do on the picture. Ideally use a retailer that someone you know has used before and if at all possible send them a picture of your hair for them to colour match for you.

Bleaching nightmares

Posted on October 31, 2015 at 12:23 am

If you want that bleached blonde look or even golden highlights, I cannot stress enough to go to a professional salon or hairdresser to do it for you. Unlike applying a colour, bleach will strip the colour out of your hair and if done incorrectly can leave you with green or red hair or even make your hair break off.

It is not cheap to have highlights done at a salon but they will have all the necessary equipment needed to do it. The home kits would allow you to say a fortune, but in my experience they never come out how you had expected them too.

If you want to lighten your hair all over then I would always suggest having full head of highlights a few time rather than bleaching your hair in one go. This will also allow your hair to remain in a good condition as bleaching can be very damaging.

A visit to the hairdressers

Posted on September 30, 2015 at 8:39 pm

A visit to the hairdressers can cost a reasonable amount of money, especially if you want colours or highlights / lowlights. Therefore it is important that you find one that you trust and that delivers the hairstyle you want.

I recently found a hairdresser that did an excellent job on my hair and so was more than happy to return when I was due to have it done again. Upon arriving at the salon I found out that my usual hairdresser was on maternity leave and therefore I would be having a new person doing it. I didn’t mind this too much as I hoped that the level of service would be the same, but unfortunately this was not the case. The hairdresser was not as experienced and made some quite awful mistakes in bleaching my hair meaning it was left in a very bad condition.

I felt very upset that not only had I paid a lot of money to have my hair done and it didn’t look right it had also damaged my hair meaning that I could not have anything else done at that point to rectify it.

When booking with your hairdresser always confirm who will be doing it and if it is someone you have not had before try and find some reviews on a website first.

Make up doesn’t have to cost a fortune

Posted on August 31, 2015 at 9:48 pm

Make up can be ridiculously expensive and many of us get sucked in to the trap of trying something out and liking it so therefore having to buy it time and time again although it is a little more expensive that we would like.

Foundations can make a real difference to a person especially if they have scars, spots or generally poor skin that they wish to cover but if you use it daily, can become expensive. I recently had a trial of an expensive brand of foundation and really liked the coverage it gave me but then realised that I was getting through a bottle a month and priced at £30 a time, couldn’t afford to keep using it. I then switched to a cheaper brand to give it a try and was astonished to see that it gave the same results as the more expensive one and was less that 60% cheaper. Experiment with a few different brands as you may be pleasantly surprised to find one that is lower priced but just as effective.
