How to find the right jeans for you

Posted on October 14, 2022 at 8:50 pm

Many women struggle to find a pair of jeans that fit well and that don’t cost the earth. As styles change they may get stuck in a rut and still wear jeans that they used to wear years ago but that do not now suit their changing body shape. So, what are the top tips for bagging that all important denim?

Always shop in person when buying a new pair of jeans so that you can try them on and choose a different size if necessary. The only exception is if you are buying a pair you already know fits you well. Take three sizes into the changing room so that you can find the perfect fit for your body shape. Remember that a different brand will probably be sized differently so you may have to try on a lot of jeans to find your perfect pair.

Often buying more affordable jeans will give you the flexibility to try a different style of jeans without worrying that they have cost a lot of money, so try supermarket brands you may be pleasantly surprised on their quality and comfort.

It is a good idea to play with proportions when it comes to jeans, as tapered tends to be more flattering than bootcut jeans or straight-leg jeans. If you’re looking for a basic, everyday jean that compliments your body shape, try a slimmer leg with a bit of stretch and whether you prefer high-rise, mid-rise or low-rise jeans, the best jeans tend to be slimmer styles.

Packing clothing for a summer holiday in the UK

Posted on July 30, 2022 at 2:30 pm

As we all know the British weather can be unpredictable and whether it be spring, summer, autumn or winter when packing for a holiday in the UK you need to be prepared for all types of weather. So, how can you pack for a holiday without having to take bags and bags of clothing with you?

The answer to this question is to pack clothes that are multi-purpose and that can be layered up if the weather becomes chilly as it often does in the evenings. Walking trousers that can be zipped off to make them into shorts and jackets that have a fleecy layer that can be removed when the weather gets warmer are ideal for a holiday and reduces the need for additional items of clothing.

It is important to think about the type of holiday you are taking and only take clothes that are suitable, for example, if you and your family rarely go to restaurants for meals you make not need to take more dressy items of clothing and if you enjoy spending days on the beach most of the day you may be in swimwear.

When it comes to footwear a pair of good quality sandals for walking and a comfortable pair of trainers may be all you will need but a pair of cheap flip flops or crocs for the beach may be a good idea.

Television programmes that show groups of dressmakers pitted against each other has given rise to an increase in people wanting to make their own clothes and home furnishings. The reasons why people want to make their own clothes are varied but generally are due to wanting unique items to wear for a lower cost than buying them from a boutique.

If you want to make your own clothes but do not know where to start it is a good idea to look out for sewing courses held at local colleges. Here you will be able to learn the basics such as different types of stitches and their applications, how to sew a variety of fabrics and how to use a pattern. It is useful if you own a sewing machine so that you can practise the techniques you learn at home. Once you are proficient at the basics you will then be able to confidently design your own simple garments from scratch.

As well as sewing, knitting and crochet have also become popular pastimes. Lots of lovely pieces can be made in this way and either patterns can be bought or downloaded from online sites. Sometimes wool can be bought at a discount price so that making your own knitted garments is cheaper still.

Things to Consider When Replacing Your Purse

Posted on January 28, 2022 at 4:35 am

A purse is an important product that can contain your entire life, but you might need to replace your purse for a number of reasons. Commonly, a purse might suffer damage over time to the materials, or you may just decide that you want to update your purse to something more to your liking. Either way, finding a new purse that appeals to you is an important process. In this blog, we will be sharing with you some things that you should consider when shopping for a new purse.

A tried and tested type of purse is a leather clutch, and for such a product you should expect to pay anywhere from fifty pounds to two thousand, depending on whom you purchase your purse from or what style you opt for. There are also a variety of types of leather that will influence the price that you end up paying, as well as the general quality of the product. In total, there are well over twenty five types of leather that can be used, however the actual difference is not too large between some of these products. Full grain leather refers to a hide that has been tanned but otherwise left alone, meaning that you should expect the to see imperfections remaining in the leather. A clutch purse made from full grain leather will end up being a cheaper option in general as a result of this, however there are some exceptions due to brand value. As an advantage, these products are generally more durable as the leather is of greater thickness than you should otherwise expect. Top grain leather has had the outer layer of hide removed through sanding in order to remove imperfections, and as a result you should expect a weaker product but an arguably better appearing product that is more expensive as a result. Nubuck leather is similar to top grain leather, but it has also undergone special brushing in order create a velvety finish similar to suede but with a greater thickness, which you should expect to be more expensive. Suede, on the other hand, is only made from the inner layer of hide and is a softer and thinner leather product than alternatives, that unfortunately is less durable.

Alternatively you can purchase a faux leather purse that has a number of advantages over leather products. Perhaps most importantly, faux leather purses are vegan purses, requiring no animal suffering for their production. Even for those that don’t live a fully vegan lifestyle, many find the act of using leather products an unfortunately reality that they would rather not be a part of, and using vegan purses can be an excellent solution for this, where you can purchase products and be assured that the materials used in its production have been fully ethically sourced. This is because a faux leather purse can achieve a very similar appearance and texture as an actual leather product through the range of treatments and materials used in their production. They are also generally cheaper to produce than the often expensive leather products, that can really balloon in cost as the quality of the products increases. You can expect that the value of vegan purses range from between twenty and three hundred pounds while retaining access to a diversity of textures and appearances that rivals any leather purse catalogue that you might find.

Are we going to be able to get out the Christmas outfits this year?

Posted on December 18, 2021 at 3:46 pm

Last year was a bit of a wash when it came to Christmas outings. The UK was plunged in to very strict restrictions meaning most Christmas parties and gatherings were cancelled and households could only mix in very small groups only on Christmas day. New years eve parties were cancelled up and down the country and the sparkle dresses had to be packed away for another year. Although this year is looking more hopeful, with cases rising at the rate they are, no one knows exactly what is likely to happen and it could be that yet again our plans have to go one hold. Lots of people have decided to hold their Christmas events earlier this year to give them more certainly of them happening but mixing close to Christmas does run the risk of getting the virus and having to isolate over the festive period. It is important to allow yourself to get dressed up from time to time, even if you are staying at home for Christmas, putting on a new outfit can really lift you mood. We also need to try and support the retail sector which has suffered a lot throughout this pandemic, and so a bit of retail therapy can go a long way to support that.
