Finding clothes to fit when your not average size

Posted on July 2, 2020 at 1:01 pm

Finding clothing to fit can often be a nightmare for some people, especially at the moment as most shops have still kept their changing rooms closed. Although you would assume that all sizes are the same amongst shops, this is not the case and a size 14 in one shop may fit very differently to a size 14 in another. We are all different shapes as well as sizes so it may be you are bigger on the top than the bottom or vice versa.

If you are classed as a plus size men or women or extremely tall or short then you may sometimes struggle to get clothes that you like in your size. Unfortunately, it seems that some shops think that anyone that is not within a certain size range does not really want to wear fashionable clothes, and obviously this is not the case.

Often for plus size or tall people, there only option is to shop online, but with sizes varying and no option to try on,  this can be very hard and may mean that you have to spend hours trawling round the shops to get an item that fits like you want it too. If possibly you may want to order two different sizes, just check that retailer offers free returns.

Are more expensive items of clothes always better quality?

Posted on June 21, 2020 at 7:57 pm

When it comes to clothing there is a massive difference in price. You can pay as little as £3-5 for a tshirt in one shop and in excess of £200 in another. But is this price difference justified by the quality?

People are separated over whether to buy quality clothes that may cost more or cheaper clothes which are often lower quality. When choosing where to buy clothing from you need to consider what the clothing is going to be worn for and by whom. If for example you are looking for work wear or school uniform that is going to be worn often and washed a lot then you may want to invest in a high quality garments that wont fade or shrink. You may also want to think about the material and how well it will iron. If you are looking for clothes for baby or a child which may become siled often or that they will grow out of very quickly then you probably do not want to spend as much. Spending a lot of money on one or two items may be perfect if you like to wear the same sorts of things, but if you like a lot of choice then you may have to opt for the cheaper options.

Updating your summer wardrobe

Posted on May 23, 2020 at 8:55 am

As the weather heats up our thoughts turn to our summer clothes. We might reach them down from the attic or from under the bed only to realise that they are not in fashion any more or that they don’t fit as well as they did at the end of last summer, so how can our summer wardrobe be updated without breaking the bank?

One of the first things to do is to throw out anything that you do not really like and have not worn in the last couple of years. We all hang on to items of clothing that we think we will wear again but often don’t thereby cluttering our drawers and wardrobes unnecessarily.

Next sort out the items of clothing that you wear most during the summer months. Do any of these items need replacing and if so, make a list so that when you are shopping you can look out for them.

A staple summer wardrobe for a woman could consist of a selection of tee shirts some strappy and some with sleeves, shorts and cropped trousers, dresses made from a lightweight material and the essential cardigan or wrap for the often chilly British summer evenings.

Footwear is going to be a mixture of comfortable walking shoes or sandals if you enjoy getting out and about in summer and sandals for more dressy occasions.

Colouring your own hair verses going to a salon

Posted on April 30, 2020 at 10:11 am

For many women, a trip to their usual hairdressing salon is a treat to look forward to. If you are there having your hair coloured and so may be sitting in the salon chair for a few hours, it is a time when you can relax, read a magazine or two and play on your phone without feeling guilty. The cost of these regular trips do unfortunately make it a treat that some cannot afford so causing some women to try colouring their hair at home. Is this a wise move though or is it false economy?

If you have ever tried to colour your own hair you will be aware that it is not an easy task. Firstly, how can you make sure that the colourant is applied evenly throughout your hair. This is especially tricky if you are trying to cover up grey hair or are trying to do roots. The whole process is messy despite your best efforts to protect clothing and skin and generally the final result is disappointing.

So, although it is much cheaper than a visit to a hairdressing salon the resulting effect will not usually be as pleasing and will certainly fail on the relaxing front too.

Finding that special outfit on the high street

Posted on March 22, 2020 at 6:49 am

Whether it be for a family wedding or a Christmas party or anything in between we may find ourselves searching for that special outfit. Some people search online and order clothes only to find that they don’t fit properly or that the fabric isn’t what they expected so a valuable solution is to carry out your search on the high street.

There are plenty of high street clothing shops that offer a special occasion range with prices to suit your budget and don’t dismiss charity shops as a bargain can often be found on designer clothing in these stores.

Some of the larger department stores offer the service of a personal shopper who can advise you on their range and help you choose not only your outfit but coordinating accessories too. This is a good option if you don’t fancy the prospect of hunting down the right accessories in numerous shops.

There are, on the high street of larger towns and cities, shops that specifically cater for wedding outfits such as Mother of the Bride or Groom attires. These shops are usually more expensive than high street stores but offer a more exclusive range of outfits and coordinating accessories such as fascinators, hats and bags.
